NBG Warning for Consumers

NBG Warning for Consumers

15 April, 2022

A number of cases have been reported recently where financial sector consumers were contacted by unknown individuals through various mobile applications (such as WhatsApp). In these messages, they offered to mail them items available for sale on various websites via mail or to transfer payment for the item to bank accounts. These individuals also sent links to websites to consumers asking them to fill in/provide card details and/or other personal data. The consumers who entered their personal and/or card details on these links, unintentionally gave strangers access to their bank accounts, resulting in financial losses incurred to them. This scheme is one of the most common forms of cyber fraud, a.k.a. phishing.

The National Bank of Georgia repeatedly calls for citizens to exercise extreme caution and vigilance when sharing their personal and financial data, including that of the bank cards, to refrain from entering this information on websites provided by unknown/suspicious individuals and to not try to execute banking/card transactions.
