National Bank of Georgia Issues Security Advise for Clients

National Bank of Georgia Issues Security Advise for Clients

20 October, 2021

Several cases where reported today when unidentified persons contacted citizens on behalf of the National Bank of Georgia and inquired about their card transactions. In some cases, they even asked to share their card number.

We would like to advise clients that the National Bank of Georgia does not request client card data. We will inform the authorities concerned regarding the above fact.

The National Bank of Georgia once again calls on citizens to stay vigilant and exercise caution when handling their personal or banking information and not to share it with third parties, even when such request seemingly comes from legitimate organizations.

In the event of any request for information, clients must become certain that the basis for that request is legitimate.

If you have any further questions, please contact the National Bank of Georgia hotline - 2 406 406.

Safeguarding greater awareness of financial information security is on our primary task list. We have already implemented a number of projects in this area. At our initiative, the financial sector of Georgia joins the international tradition and launches a joint cyber security awareness campaign for the first time this year. Cyber-awareness month projects in cooperation with the financial education portal FinEdu (www.finedu.gov.ge) and the commercial sector will be carried out throughout the month.

In efforts to protect the rights of consumers in the financial sector, the National Bank of Georgia issues intermittent warnings, along with information on financial fraud. Materials of similar content are posted on the NBG’s official and financial education websites.
