17 April, 2024

Ekaterine Mikabadze, the Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, participated in a high-level meeting of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Sustainable Banking and Finance Network (SBFN) in Washington, D.C. The event took place during the annual spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

During the SBFN roundtable event, representatives from various countries discussed sustainable finance trends in emerging markets and developing economies. They also shared insights on trends in sustainable finance in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs), reflected on their countries’ experience developing sustainable finance initiatives with the support of SBFN and IFC, and provided forward-looking views on the next frontier in sustainable finance.

Ekaterine Mikabadze highlighted the NBG’s achievements in sustainable finance, particularly the support received from SBFN and IFC. It is noteworthy that the National Bank of Georgia was upgraded to the highest level in the six-level succession matrix of SBFN for sustainable banking and finance network.

"In recent years, as Georgia has made progress in sustainable finance, the National Bank of Georgia has been elevated to the highest phase, known as the consolidation stage, in the SBFN's six-step evaluation system. This promotion reflects the significance and successful implementation of the measures undertaken by the National Bank of Georgia towards sustainable finance," stated Ekaterine Mikabadze.

Reminder: in March, the National Bank of Georgia hosted the fifth Sustainable Finance Forum in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the IFC partner Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and the IFC-supported Sustainable Banking and Finance Network (SBFN).
